Brian Buchanan; singer, songwriter and guitarist, is no stranger to country music. With countless appearances both locally and nationally, Brian has made several appearances on the Virginia Dreams Center Stage television show and is currently a performer on the Shenandoah Jamboree at Shenandoah Caverns. His style mixes classic country integrity with new and fresh arrangements and delivery. He cites the Statler Brothers, Faron Young, Don Williams, Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Rodney Crowell, and Buck Owens as major influences in his style and songwriting. His new CD project, Around The Bend is a mix of new original material and classic country songs, all deeply rooted in the traditional country style.

We are excited this year to be working for the SPCA of Winchester this year. Last year you may have heard our main charity was CancerCare.org and we helped raise money for them in addition to helping 3 other local non profits in the process. Our decision is to mainstream our festival into more support for the local community of Clear Brook and Winchester for 2014. We are happy therefore to announce that we’ve taken the SPCA under our wing for our one of our core charities, who will be getting a percentage of the food sales. We hope you will spread the word and come out to our event, have some fun and eat some food to help us raise money for them this year. See other charities for 2014 HERE.
WHEN: June 27-29th 2014
WHERE: Frederick County Fairgrounds
Visit our friends at the SPCA:
I Aim to Smoke gets a big HOGGGGING UP welcome , as they will joining the KCBS Competition and are coming to us from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Pitmaster Aric Armstrong (MILITARY, woot woot!) with team members Brian Whitaker and Rebecca Armstrong will be joining us for game and glory! Check out more about this team on their blog, “BBQ STRONG”
Parents: you may just happen to see Pigmund the Pig floating around Winchester somewhere in the Kids Zone! He’s been known to have a complete melt down in 100 degree summer weather and disappear to roll in mud, but we’ll hope he keeps close by and entertains the kids this year!
**Don’t feed the pigs!
The Devil’s Backbone Brewing Company is a local beer out of Roseland, Virginia that will be our selected local beer on tap in the beer area of Hogging Up Festival. We can’t tell you exactly which one will be frothy and cold, but know this, Devil’s Backbone has won many beer awards and you can read about their beers here.

Guess what? The original mandolin player of Stoney Creek Bluegrass has returned to the band. That’s right, none other than Brett Smeltzer . What does this mean? That these guys will be on fire at HoggingUp, Virginia’s hottest new festival.
Mark your Calendar, Hogging Up is Friday through Sunday June 28-30th.
Stoney Creek performs Saturday June 29th.
We are sorry to announce we are going to stop accepting judging applications early. The good news is we received over 200 from 8+ states and appreciate all your interest. There seems to have been a mail crash with BigFatDaddys email, so we’ve been re-emailing you from HoggingUpBBQFestival@verizon.net please add to your save list . If we don’t get reconfirmations from everyone we’ll be calling you soon! We have our main judge list, and our reserve judges on standby.
Forms that were mailed after December 15th may not have been processed yet as we were on holiday. You should receive a confirmation soon as to status.
Volunteers Still Needed
We also still need volunteers. If you are on reserve and wanted to come to our festival anyway, why not volunteer and get paid in delicious barbecue and get a chance to network with your barbecue teams, judges and friends? If you are interested in doing this, let us know when we send your confirmation. The great thing about this, is you get a VIP three day pass to listen to all the great music and bands, but only have to volunteer a four hour shift!
