Big Fat Daddy’s would like to sponsor Hogging Up again, and has found what appears to be a good location for a future KCBS BBQ Festival & Competition closer to home base near York, Pennsylvania. This undisclosed location will power big rigs and have a covered building for the judges. We are currently discussing possibilities with the property owner who has ongoing construction and improvements to the site. It is unforseen when all these improvements will be completed and if we can book a date for 2016 but we are working on it. Things have been busy for Big Fat Daddy’s during 2015 doing the Factory Tour Stop for the County of York–the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. These barbecue tours raise money for Bell Socialization Services, a local shelter in York Pennsylvania. So far we’ve had visitors from 12 different states who have enjoyed their visit. This came after we’d been inducted into the Southern Food and Beverage Museum and on top of that filmed on the second season of Food Network’s Carnival Eats show for our Colossal Got Beef? ® Crabcake.

Drink and eat responsibly 🙂
Although the HoggingUp wordpress site is still going here, the HoggingUp.com URL is being redirected. So what’s up with that?
Festival Cancellation 2015
Hogging Up BBQ & Music Festival was officially put on hold for 2015 due to other commitments by Big Fat Daddy’s as per previous announcements, namely a stint with the Convention and Visitors Bureau of York County, Pennsylvania for public tours. We’ve gotten a lot of vendor inquiries so we’re posting it again.
Outlook for 2016 : Will there be a Hogging Up?
The usual date and location for 2016 looks bleak since festivals have moved around. Big Fat Daddy’s was using their (bye week aka vacation week) to host the festival, as they are booked solid into fairs and vending the remainder of the year with contacts already into May 2016 so hosting on other weeks is an issue. If this festival is held for 2016 year, it would have to be another date and possible location / venue change closer to the Big Fat Daddy’s home base. What will happen to Hogging Up remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more info.

We are stoked that Gary Smallwood is coming back to the Clear Brook stage! He’ll be performing on Sunday 6/29/14. He has shared the stage with or supported such great acts as Robin Trower, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, the late great Jeff Healey, Elliott Easton(the Cars), Marshall Tucker Band, Molly Hatchet, Bret Michaels, Guster, Catfish Hodge, Michael Fath and many more.
His guitar playing, both electric and acoustic has been highly sought after by musicians as well as the public. He has loaned his talents to many bands as a ‘sideman’ and in the studio on numerous recording projects, including Genghis Angus’ “Twelve Days”, Bryan Fox’s “Unfoxable”, Josh Burgess Band’s “Living & Dying Under Orion” , Jim Asbell’s “Man Overbored”, Leesburg Community Church’s “Give Me Jesus”, Bret Michaels’ “Rock My World” and countless other demo recordings.
Gary’s style of music consists of classic rock, soulful blues rock or just “flat out guitar rock”…he has a great appreciation for all types of music and sometimes will incorporate soul, R&B, funk, country and ‘show tunes’ into his playing. Gary also gives back to the community by playing shows for numerous benefits and charities throughout the region. He is a well respected and hard working musician, playing 200+ shows a year. Check him out here.
We are happy to welcome talented performer Cosette Gobat, all the way from Hershey, Pennsylvania! Her eclectic mix of indie and country will keep you wanting more! This talented singer-songwriter began playing and writing music at age 7. In September 2012, she released her debut album, “Moving On”, now available on iTunes, Spotify, MySpace Music, iHeartRadio, Rhapsody, Amazon MP3, and Google Music.
I Aim to Smoke gets a big HOGGGGING UP welcome , as they will joining the KCBS Competition and are coming to us from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Pitmaster Aric Armstrong (MILITARY, woot woot!) with team members Brian Whitaker and Rebecca Armstrong will be joining us for game and glory! Hogging Up Festival would like to say thanks to Mike Hornby and Around the Panhandle Magazine , as next issue you will be seeing more on our festival and what is going to make it so very special in the next issue. The next issue will hit subscribers in the West Virginia – Virginia panhandle area. You may find it in your doctor’s or dentist office. We are subscribers ourselves, as it tells us what we must do in and around the panhandle area. Visit the link above to see how you can subscribe.
As you know the Frederick County Fairgrounds is a stone’s throw away form West Virginia! Come and join us at 155 Fairgrounds Road, Clear Brook Virginia. See you there!
You can’t have a BBQ & Music Festival in Winchester without having one of Winchester’s own TOP DOGS for a special appearance. Diehl Wilson’s big and purdy baby, also known as the VIRGINIA GIANT Monster Truck . He’ll be Hogging Up the Frederick County Fairgrounds with us for the weekend, displaying his truck , letting you take pictures, and …..maybe even giving YOU a ride!
Special thanks to the Virginia Giant for coming!

Electric Generator and Better Pricing
We had to get things straight and map out the electric situation at the fairgrounds — originally having only a few spaces for the big rigs we thought about this, it’s going to be summer, and HOTTER than a pig’s nose with a fever. Most everyone is gonna want to have 30 or 50 amps, right? Our prices originally were higher towards big RVers, because we really didn’t want to have to bring in a generator.
Thanks to Mike Lackey’s advice (shout out to Bluemont’s own BBQ guy!) we’ve redone our application for better pricing to accommodate you big riggers. We will now be out pounding the sand and beating down the doors of some local businesses to help us bring in a generator for you guys.
APPLICATIONS WILL BE UP BY THE END OF THIS WEEKEND.
We’ve gotten things straight with the Governor’s office and hope to have our paper in hand soon.
And now we have figured out how many competitors we can accommodate we will be emailing the judges official updates, BY THIS WEEKEND. Judges, make sure you have BigFatDaddys@verizon.net on your safelist or if not, check your SPAM FOLDER! If I don’t hear back from you by mid next week, I’ll be calling you up!
Sound Proposals & Music Contracts
We are still negotiating with a sound person to work with our bands. We are interviewing everyone and want to go with the BEST who can accommodate such bands as Stoney Creek Bluegrass, Circa Blue, Dangerous Mood, Avey Music and Kirsten Sowers……..(and more). We also want to make sure it’s someone who can work with us each year.
To our lovely bands, thanks for your patience and suggestions.
Top Secret Local Charity & Backyard BBQ for Sunday
We have approached a local non profit to help us with this festival. Although we want to donate to nationwide cancer charity CancerCare, we ALSO want someone who is in the town of Winchester or Clear Brook to benefit from this too. Once we have this firmed up we will tell you who our partner is.
We’ve also decided on a local Backyard BBQ for Sunday, so applications for that will be posted THIS WEEKEND.
Special thanks for those of you who have helped with the victims of Hurricane Sandy. We know a few barbecue guys reading this have been there. We are from Baltimore and are sickened by what this has done to our neighbors in NJ and NY, many of whom are homeless or still without power.
More soon! Off to have a very busy HoggingUp Barbecue weekend!
Thanks for your patience.
